I just had to laugh out loud the other day when I read this quote in the newspaper “Dude, I’m on the best cleanse ever. Just guacamole, salsa and chips.” (girl to guy, overheard on yoga mats at Yoga Tree Valencia by Tosha Silver) Leah Garchik, Public Eavesdropping, San Francisco Chronicle.
I know cleansing has become more popular and common recently, but the quote was not exactly what I was thinking.
Many people have had some exposure to cleansing and detoxification. From juice cleanse and the master cleanse, to Dr. Natura’s and Jillian Michael’s cleanse, it seems that lately everyone is cleansing to eliminate toxins and lose weight.
All you have to do is look in Whole Foods or any other natural food store; they have complete aisles dedicated to internal cleansing products. Perhaps I’m just more aware of it now, but it seems that this is a big shift in the last few years. There is definitely more interest in being healthy and maintaining a healthy weight through cleansing. However, many still consider cleansing to be a crash diet, never mind that people have been cleansing for health and religious reasons for thousands of years.
